Work Continues on The Millie Fire
Incident: Millie Fire Wildfire
Released: 9/3/2012
Bozeman, MT - The Millie Fire, twenty miles south of Bozeman is 10,186 acres and remains 10 percent contained.
Fire personnel continued to construct and reinforce fireline on the north, west, and south sides of the fire. Today, the most active area was on the northeast section of the fire.
Fireline on the southwest side of the fire near Blanchard Ranch is partially contained. Crews continued to construct fire lines along the north and south sides of the fire despite difficult terrain.
Tom Suwyn, Incident Command said, "A small remote camp was established north of the fire to minimize travel time and increase the amount of time crews have to work on the fire. As we enter into steeper terrain and heavier fuels, we need to be vigilant about firefighter safety."
Cloud and smoke cover helped slow fire growth. Hotter and drier weather is expected for the next few days.
As of Monday night, there were 12 crews, 21 engines, six helicopters, nine dozers and three water tenders working on the fire. A total of 510 personnel are assigned to the incident.
Another Fire Information Meeting will be held Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 6:00p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church, 2152 W. Graf St., in Bozeman.
