Fire Activity in Soda Fork Calls for Revised Closure Area.
Incident: North Buffalo Fire Wildfire
Released: 9/17/2012
The closure area for the North Buffalo fire has been amended for public access. The Soda Fork Trail (FS 6051) is closed. Also closed is that portion of the North Buffalo Fork Trail (FS 6047) beginning at the junction with Trail Creek (FS 6048) and continuing easterly to its terminus on the Continental Divide. The North Buffalo Fork Trail (FS 6047) from its beginning up to the Trail Creek junction shall be open for public use. Refer to the attached map.
The area closed is that portion of the North Buffalo watershed, bound by the Continental Divide on the north and east side of the fire and the Soda Fork Watershed bound by Smokehouse and Terrace Mountains at the 10258 benchmark. From there, the boundary follows southeast to Terrace Meadow, east along the South Buffalo Fork Trail (FS 3053) to County Line Creek, and thence north to Smokehouse Mountain. The west boundary is the North Buffalo Fork Trail (FS 6047) up to its junction with Trail Creek. Visitors are reminded to use caution when in any fire area, be familiar with the expected weather conditions and current fire behavior. Winds can suddenly fall dead trees and snags, open flames and smoke may reduce visibility. As with any outdoor adventure, be prepared and know before you go.
