Fire Update: The Delphia fire had no growth and little activity on Thursday. Crews continued patrolling and mopup around the fire's edge. Areas requiring rehabilitation are being assessed. Damage assessments are underway. A total of 21 outbuildings and non-residence structures were destroyed since the fire started. An old cabin and outbuilding did burn on Wednesday when dry unburned fuel ignited because of the windy conditions. These 2 buildings were within the fire perimeter. They were not inhabited.
Because of fire activity in other parts of the state, resources are being reassigned. Adequate resources are staying at the Delphia fire to continue meeting incident objectives and to be available if any section of the fire were to become active or there is a need for initial attack on new fire starts.
The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for most of south central and all of southeast Montana from Friday afternoon through Saturday afternoon for low humidity, warm temperatures, and increasing thunderstorm activity. Initially, thunderstorms will be dry, but may have some moisture Friday evening. Delphia fire personnel will respond to initial attack needs in the vicinity of the fire and upon request farther from the fire. Temperatures will return to the low 90's on Friday and Saturday. Winds will be from the southwest at 5 to 15 mph.
An infrared flight is scheduled for overnight. Remaining hot areas will be identified and extinguished. Additional resources will be demobilized or reassigned.
Special Concerns: New fire starts! Attention: Stage 2 Fire Restrictions remain in effect for this area. Information on fire restrictions can be found at http://firerestrictions.us/mt/.
