Covelo, CA - The North Pass Fire has been holding steadily at 41,983 acres. Containment remains at 97%.
Visitors to the Mendocino National Forest need to be aware of all forest orders. The forest is still in fire restrictions (Forest Order 08-12-08). All forest orders can be found on the Mendocino National Forest webpage at (http://www.fs.usda.gov/mendocino) under "Alerts and Warnings".
Progress has been made adjacent to the M-2 road, from just south of the Green Springs campground to just south of Anthony Peak. The crews and equipment met near the middle of this project, bringing the M - 2 Road one step closer to opening. An infrared flyover shows several small fires throughout the interior of the fireline.
The fire area remains closed due to unsafe hazards such as burning stump holes, falling trees and occasional small smouldering fires inside the fireline. This closure may remain in effect for an extended period of time until all hazards are mitigated. Please feel free to contact information personnel at 707-983-6318 for the latest updates.
