Released: 9/16/2012

Saturday, September 15, 2012 Covelo, CA - The North Pass

Fire has been holding steadily at 41,983 acres. Containment remains at 97%. Hunting season is upon us, and visitors need to be aware of all forest orders.

The Mendocino National Forest is still in fire restrictions (Forest Order 08-12-08).

Portions of the Yolla Bolly Middle Eel Wilderness that were once in the fire closure area are now open. FH7 and M4 are open. To access the Soldier Ridge area and northern portions of the Yolla Bolly Middle Eel Wilderness areas, visitors should take M2 from Paskenta west to M21 intersection (south of the Green Springs campground) to the M1 north. M1 towards Espee Ridge is also accessible.

All forest orders can be found on the Mendocino National Forest webpage at (http://www.fs.usda.gov/mendocino) under "Alerts and Warnings".

The fire area remains closed due to unsafe hazards such as burning stump holes and falling trees. This closure may remain in effect for an extended period of time until all hazards are mitigated.
