ORDER NO. 08-12-14

AREA, ROAD & TRAIL CLOSURE

MENDOCINO NATIONAL FOREST

Pursuant to 16 USC 551 and 36 CFR 261.50(a) and (b), and to provide for public safety, the following acts are prohibited within the Mendocino National Forest. This Order is effective from September 12, 2012, until the North Pass Fire is fully suppressed.

1. Going into or being upon National Forest System lands within the North Pass Fire Closure Area. The North Pass Fire Closure Area begins at the intersection of Forest Highway No. FH7 and Forest Road No. M1, then continues east to its intersection with Forest Road No. M4 at Mendocino Pass, then continues north along Forest Road No. M4 to its intersection with Forest Road No. 23N69, then continues north along Forest Road No. 23N69 to its intersection with Forest Road No. M2, then continues north along Forest Road No. M2 to a point 1500 feet north of the southeast corner of Section 35, Township 25 North, Range 10 West (Mt. Diablo Base and Merdian), then continues north to its intersection with the southeast corner of Section 26, then contines west to its intersection with the Covelo Ranger District boundary, then continues north along the Covelo Ranger District Boundary to the southwest corner of Section 34, Township 27 North, Range 10 West, then continues west along the Mendocino National Forest boundary to its intersection with the Covelo Ranger District boundary, then continues south along the Covelo Ranger District boundary back to the starting point, as shown on the attched map. 36 CFR 261.52(e).

2. Being on the National Forest System roads listed below and shown on the attached map.

a. Any National Forest System road within the North Pass Fire Closure Area.

b. Forest Road No. M2 from Green Springs, then south to its intersection with Forest Road No. M4.

c. Forest Road No. M4 from its intersection with Forest Road No. M2, then west to its intersection with Forest Highway No. FH7.

3. Being on any National Forest System trail within the North Pass Fire Closure Area, as shown on the attached map. 36 CFR 261.55(a).

Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:

1. Persons with a permit from the Forest Service specifically authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission.

2. Owners or lessees of land in the North Pass Fire Closure Area, to the extent necessary access their land.

3. Residents in the North PassFire Closure Area, to the extent necessary to access their residences.

4. Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of an official duty.

These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions in 36 CFR Part 261, Subpart A.

A violation of these prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than 6 months, or both. 16 USC 551 and 18 USC 3559, 3571, and 3581.
