North Pass Fire Update for 09-10-2012
Incident: North Pass Wildfire
Released: 9/10/2012
Monday, September 10, 2012
Covelo, CA - The North Pass Fire remains at 41,983 acres. Containment is steadily increasing and is now at 97%.
Forest roads remain closed today due to the ongoing suppression damage repair work that firefighters are now doing. Please help firefighters finish the North Pass fire by staying off the roads in the fire area. Forest roads must be legally opened with a new Forest Order, so please check the Mendocino National Forest webpage for updates (http://www.fs.usda.gov/mendocino) under "Alerts and Warnings".
As full containment of the fire is completed, it's important to note that containment only means that there is line around the fire area. The fire isn't out until it's controlled. Control of the North Pass fire may not occur until the winter rains begin. This is why the Forest may keep the closure order in place for the fire area.
Management of the North Pass fire is transitioning to a smaller management team on Tuesday at 6AM. The Type 3 Team will be shadowing the current Type 2 Team today. The Base Camp and the Incident Command Post (ICP) will be co-located at the Round Valley Airport.
