Fire Update for 09062012

Incident: North Pass Wildfire
Released: 9/6/2012

Covelo, CA - The North Pass Fire remains at 41,983 acres with 68% containment. Favorable weather yesterday and last night enabled firefighters to make good progress on fire lines.

Fire line along Fly Creek on the eastern edge of the fire is holding and is being mopped up. The fire has remained on the west side of the Middle Fork of the Eel River. The northern portion of the fire continues to burn within the Pothole Creek and Stick Lake Canyon area inside the fire lines. Crews are focused on building and improving the fire lines in this area to obtain full containment.

Repair of damage caused by firefighting activities (suppression repair) is a major focus along the south end of the fire and along M1 and M2 roads. Resource advisors have been working with firefighters to minimize damage to the Eel River watershed and other resources in the fire area. A Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team will be working on the North Pass fire to assess resource damage caused by the fire.

Evacuations have been lifted for the majority of the Bauer Ranch subdivision. Damage assessment is ongoing and so far 16 structures have been identified as destroyed. Roads in the area still remain closed due to firefighting activity and removal of hazardous trees.
