Date Started: Saturday, August 18, 2012, approximately 2:47 a.m. Location: 10 miles north east of Covelo in Williams Valley

Percent Contained: 37%

Cause: Lightning

Summary:

The evacuation order for residences along the Indian Dick Road (Forest Road M1) and the Bauer subdivision was partially lifted. Indian Dick Road (Forest Road M1) up to Boardman Camp is open to residents only, all points north along that road remain closed. Mendocino Pass Road (Forest Highway 7) from the Eel River Work Station (Black Butte Ranch) up to benchmark 2444 (second driveway entrance to Bauer Subdivision) are open to residents with a valid local ID only. All areas east of the intersection to Forest Road M4 remain closed and within the evacuation order. Residents are not allowed on the roads within the affected areas from 7 AM to 8 PM.

The Southern California Interagency Incident Management Team 3 will start to transition the management, operations, and logistics to another incident management team starting today. The incoming team will assume command of the fire at 6 PM on Saturday, September 1.

The fire continues to move in a north/northeast direction, as it backs into the Middle Fork of the Eel River, Hammerhorn Lake, and Asa Bean Ridge. Twenty three residences, five commercial buildings and thirty five outbuildings remain threatened. Five residences and seven outbuildings have been destroyed.

Projected 48-Hour Movement/Spread: The fire is anticipated to spread north towards Wrights Valley, Hole in the Ground and Hopkins Peak.

Incident Priorities:

To provide for public and firefighter safety.

Maintain effective communications with communities and county officials.

Keep Fire north of FH 7 (Mendocino Pass Rd.) and Black Butte Creek.

Keep Fire west of the area between Black Butte Peak, Logs Springs and Cold Springs.

Keep Fire south of the Yellow Fire Perimeter.

Keep Fire east of Murphy Creek on Round Valley Indian Reservation Lands.
