Highway 87 Fire 70% Contained

Fire Managers with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Montana DNRC, Yellowstone County and local fire departments have declared the Highway 87 Fire 70% contained this evening. Earlier today, heavy smoke billowed from interior pockets of unburned timber and grass, but the fire remained within its perimeter mapped earlier today at 1933 acres.
Firefighters will again be working overnight tonight, looking for hot spots and ensuring any active areas of the fire are controlled. One structure was lost in the blaze, but firefighters say the threats to any additional residences is significantly diminished after today's progress.
Roughly 100 personnel are working on the fire, as well as numerous engines and aircraft.
Tomorrow, crews will again be out patrolling and mopping up hot spots, helicopters will be available to assist.
The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing. No injuries have been reported.
