Firefighters continued patrolling the fire perimeter and kept the fire within current containment lines. Crews made good progress on suppression repair on several miles of dozer lines, hand lines and roads needing work as a result of firefighting efforts. The objective of fire suppression repair is to prevent the use of fire lines as trails which may cause confusion with correct route finding and will minimize erosion and sediment movement on and around the fire line. Heavy equipment, such as road graders, excavators and backhoe tractors are being utilized to accomplish the task of suppression repair.
A Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) Team assessed the fire rehabilitation requirements and a plan was developed for fire crews to complete immediate post-fire emergency situations with the goal of protecting life, property and natural and cultural resources. BAER Teams are intended to reduce further damage to land being temporarily exposed while in a fragile condition. Burned area rehabilitation is designed to repair or improve lands damaged by the fire which may not recover on their own. The extent of repair will vary depending upon intended use of the forest after the fire.
Fire Behavior: Unburned islands within the fire perimeter continue to burnout and fire is slowing backing down toward the McCloud River on the northern part of the fire. The McCloud River is being utilized as a containment line on that section of the fire.
In the interest of firefighter and public safety, the Shasta-Trinity National Forest has issued emergency closure areas. These closures will remain in place until the area is safe for the public. Please see the Forest Orders and closure maps on InciWeb (address above).
