Due to recent moisture, the Wind River Agency in cooperation with the Tribal Fish and Game and the Shoshone and Arapaho Joint Business Council is lifting the public use closures in place for the Alpine Lake Fire. In addition, the Sage Creek and Willow Creek roads are now open to public access in accordance with Tribal Fish and Game regulations.
The Fire Restrictions as passed on June 29, 2012 will be lifted in part on Saturday, September 29th at noon. Building or using an open campfire will now be permissible. However, the remaining provisions will stay in effect. In particular, open burning, such as a field, ditch, debris or pile burning is prohibited. The public is reminded that the fire danger within the lower elevation valley is still rated as High.
The lifting of these closures and restrictions will take place on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at noon and will coincide with like restrictions being lifted on the adjacent Shoshone National Forest.
The Alpine Lake Fire is now at 46,185 acres. The fire remains active and continues to be managed and suppressed under the Wildland Fire Management Plan for the Wind River Agency. Smoke and active fire will continue to be seen by the public. Firefighter vehicular traffic will be focused over the next week in the Sage Creek area and on into Saint Lawrence Basin.
The agency recommends that hunters and other recreationist avoid entering the fire's actual burn area. The public is also reminded that all travel on the Wind River Agency is at your own risk.
