Yellowstone National Park Fire Update - September 11, 2012 - 12:00 PM
Incident: Cygnet Complex Wildfire

Summary: Little growth has occurred on the fires burning in Yellowstone National Park in the past few days. However, Red Flag Warnings remain in effect until midnight across South Central Montana due to gusty winds, low humidities and dry fuels.
No further daily updates will be provided unless there is a significant increase in fire or smoke activity.
Cygnet Fire: The 2,400 acre Cygnet Fire has burned on both sides of the Norris to Canyon road. A section of the backcountry along the road corridor remains closed. Fire and smoke activity may increase under Red Flag conditions today with more gusty winds forecasted. This lightning caused fire, located 5 miles southwest of Canyon Village, was discovered on August 10.
Dewdrop Fire: This lightning-caused fire is in the backcountry, 9 miles southeast of Canyon Village. It is estimated at 1,100 acres. Some backcountry closures remain in effect.
Range Fire: This 400 acre backcountry fire is located 8.5 miles southwest of Tower Fall. Like the Dewdrop Fire, this lightning caused fire was discovered in late July.
Other fires and smoke: Smoke drifting into the park from fires across the region may be visible at times.
Weather: Much cooler temps are expected today across the area, but humidities will still dip into the teens, and gusty winds will continue. The Red Flag Warning for South Central Montana is in effect until midnight, but may be cancelled around sunset. Very cold to freezing temperatures are forecast tonight, with Wednesday remaining cool. A warm-up is forecast to begin again on Thursday.
Fire Restrictions: There are no fire restrictions in the park. However, visitors are encouraged to be careful with fire.
Impacts to visitors and area residents: All roads leading to the park and all park entrances, roads, campgrounds, lodging, stores and other visitor services are open.
