In order to provide for public and firefighter safety, Willamette and Deschutes National Forest Fire Managers have closed an area surrounding the Bobby Fire to public access. The fire is located just west of Bobby Lake. The closed area encompasses all the trails that could lead someone into the actual fire itself. Unfortunately, due to the relatively level and untracked terrain in this area, it is difficult to tie the closed area to roads, trails or geographic features; hence managers used Township, Range and Section lines to define the actual closure.
The closed area is bounded on the east side by the Range line that separates R6E from R7E. The southern boundary of the closed area is on the Township line that is immediately south of Maiden Peak and thus separates Township 22 from Township 23. The southern boundary ends when it reaches the section line separating sections 32 from 31 just east of Upper Marilyn Lake. The western boundary follows the western section line of sections 32 and 29 north until it intersects with the Waldo Lake Road edge (the road is open, but immediately east of the road is the beginning of the closed area). The northern extent of the closure is a Section line located south of Charlton Lake and north of Gergine Butte; the section line separates sections 27 from 22, 26 from 23 in T21S, R6E. The 'box of closure' is then complete where the northern boundary intersects the R6E/R7E line in the vicinity of Round Meadow. See attached map for a visual representation of the closure.
