Information Update on the Goff Fire/Fort Complex
YREKA, CA- Two more crews of 20 firefighters each joined the existing three crews to help keep the Goff Fire contained within the fireline and natural barriers at the northwest corner of the fire. Low humidity and warming temperatures continue to encourage active fire conditions. Saturday the combined ground crews will focus on strengthening the containment line with helicopters providing water drops as well as resupplying the crews in in the rugged terrain.
Suppression repair work at Seiad Valley, CA along State Highway 96 and the Seiad Creek Road is completed. Crews also completed work fire suppression repairs and hazard trees along the portion of Pacific Crest Trail between State Highway 96 and the crest.
Thompson Ridge and Thompson Creek roads on the Klamath National Forest have been reopened for public use. These roads were originally closed to help serve as containment lines for fire suppression. However the fire did not reach these roads-thus enabling the reopening. Other existing road and trail closures inside and adjacent to the Goff Fire remain closed. A number of roads and trails have also been reopened, and the area closure lifted in the on the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest side of the Fort Complex. Forest visitors are urged to be extra careful with any activity that has the potential to start a fire. Visitors need to be aware that Klamath National Forest is in Fire Restrictions. Check the Forest website at: http://www.fs.usda.gov/klamath/ or with a Forest Service station for local conditions. Please call (530) 841-4451 for fire information.
Closures & Fire Restrictions: Various trail, road. area closures, and fire restrictions will stay in place for the safety of firefighters and forest visitors. Drivers are urged to use caution, especially on Highway 96 west of Seiad Valley, CA.
Lily Pad Road (47N80) and Bug Creek Road (18N02) are closed on Klamath National Forest. Multiple trail closures are in effect including portions of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), Boundary National Recreation Trail, Fort Goff Trail and Portuguese Creek Trail.
