Information Update on Fort Complex

YREKA, CA- Another crew of 20 firefighters joined the existing two crews to help keep the Goff Fire contained within the fireline and natural barriers at the northwest corner of the fire. Low humidity and warming temperatures have led to more active fire conditions. By 9:00AM the temperature was already 75 degrees at the crest compared to 50 degrees down at the Incident Command Post in Happy Camp, CA.

Increased smoke is visible due to burning of interior islands of vegetation and tactical burning being used to strengthen containment lines. The firefighting crews are continuing to camp overnight nearby in order to gain an early morning start working on mop up and containment lines. Helicopter water drops continue to provide vital support to the firefighting efforts on the ground.

Suppression repair work at Seiad Valley, CA along State Highway 96 and the Seiad Creek Road is nearly completed. An assessment of fire suppression repairs and hazard trees was completed today along the portion of Pacific Crest Trail between State Highway 96 and the crest. Work on those tasks will continue today.
