Goff Fire Information Update

The mandatory evacuation order issued on August 28th, 2012 by the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office for residents of Seiad Valley in the Seiad Creek Road area remains in effect. The notice includes closure of Seiad Creek Road, Seiad Oaks Road, and some portions of the west side of Highway 96. An evacuation center has been established at Siskiyou Golden Fair Grounds, 1172 Fairlane Road, Yreka Ca. The evacuation center has the capability to house large and small animals as well.

Protecting homes in Seiad Valley remains the top priority as well us mopping up and holding the fire north of Seiad Valley and Highway 96. Firefighters will continue conducting tactical firing behind homes threatened by the fire and along Highway 96 to remove unwanted fuels. Drivers can expect some delays due to one lane closure, pilot car guided traffic through areas affected by the fire along the highway.

Yesterday the fire moved down to parts of the containment lines in Seiad Valley and Highway 96. The fire is expected to continue moving south to containment lines over the next 24 hours. It will also continue to move east above Seiad Valley into the West Fork of Seiad Creek. In order to secure firelines on the east and west sides of the fire, tactical firing will be utilized in areas where it is safe to do so. The fire is expected to move west to Four Mile Butte and Tims Peak and northwest towards Buck Mountain. Firefighters will be working on constructing fire line on the west side of the fire above Thompson Creek Drainage.

Temperatures are expected to be between 86 and 92 degrees today. The winds along the ridge tops are will be out of the northeast at 5 to 7 mph with gusts up to 12 mph.

18 hand-crews, 5 helicopters
