Minidoka Complex News Release

Cave Canyon Is 100% Contained

Incident: Minidoka Complex Wildfire
Released: 8/17/2012

Final Update from the Great Basin Team 1

Minidoka Ranger District: 208-678-0430

Rock Creek Canyon Remains Closed

Cave Canyon is 100% Contained

The Cave Canyon and Deer Hollow fires continue to smolder with occasional torching in steep, narrow canyons. However, fire managers feel confident there is little threat to the control lines as they were tested by strong winds and held. Occasional interior torching and green island burnout is occurring well within the burn. The Eight Mile and Hot Well fires are both in monitor status. The Cave Canyon fire is 88, 909 acres and 100 percent contained. The Deer Hollow fire is 5,440 acres and 95 percent contained.

Many of the firefighting resources released from the Minidoka complex have been reassignment to other fires. The resources staying on the fire will be assisting the new fire management teams that assumed control of the fires today at 6 a.m. This is the last fire update given by Lund's Great Basin Incident Management Team 1.

Mop-up crews continue to button up the Cave Canyon and Deer Hollow fires. Active rehabilitation continues around the fires to restore the fire line to a more natural state.

Hot Well Fire: 100 percent contained and monitored by aircraft. Final acreage is 3,056.

Eight Mile Fire: 100 percent contained and monitored by aircraft. Final acreage is 211.

Information for all fires on the Minidoka Complex is at http://inciweb.org/incident/3116/.

Rock Creek Canyon remains closed at the forest boundary through the weekend and will possibly re-open early next week. Area closures are also in effect for the Cave Canyon Fire and both fires on the Black Pine Division. Please see the official closure orders and maps on the Sawtooth National Forest website at www.fs.usda.gov/sawtooth or call the Minidoka Ranger District office at 208-678-0430.
