Incident: Holloway Wildfire
Released: 8/20/2012

This is the final update for the Holloway Fire. For more information please refer to www.inciweb.org/incident/3113 or call 775-868-6901 (NV Zone) or 541-473-6218 (OR Zone)

Nevada Zone: Rehabilitation of firebreaks continued Sunday on the Nevada portion of the Holloway Fire. Thunderstorms that moved through the area during the middle of the day brought light rain to portions of the fire, but lightning associated with these storms caused a new start south of the Holloway Fire. Crews from the Holloway Fire assisted Winnemucca District, BLM personnel in battling this new blaze. Named the Coyote Point Fire, it was located near Black Mountain west of Coyote Point Road and south of Nine Mile Road. The fire was contained late Sunday night and will be monitored today to ensure that it remains within the fire lines.

Demobilization of fire personnel continues on Monday as firefighters and equipment is made available for re-assignment to other fires or returns home for a rest before being called upon to join in the effort to control other wildfires.

Oregon Zone: Rehabilitation efforts are progressing well in the Oregon Zone of the fire. Fire suppression rehabilitation involves pulling back berms along dozer created fire lines, installing water bars to prevent erosion and fixing fences that were cut during firefighting efforts.

Thunderstorms in the early afternoon occurred over the fire area yesterday. Most of the fire area received a little moisture from the storm, with some areas receiving as much as ¼ inches of rain. However, lighting from the storms ignited a 30 acre fire near the Ten Mile Fire, northeast of McDermitt, NV. Firefighters responded with hand crews, engines and helicopters to contain the fire last night.

Today crews will continue rehabilitation efforts and mopping-up the new fire from yesterday. Mop-up is defined as extinguishing burning material along or near the containment line. Demobilization of crews and equipment will continue today. Tomorrow morning Pacific Northwest Team 3 will transfer management of the fire to a smaller organization
