Barry Point Fire Update - FINAL
This will be the final update on the Barry Point Fire. For future information on the status of the fire or questions about the area closures please contact:
Fremont and Winema National Forests - Lisa Swinney, 541-947- 6261
Modoc National Forest - Suzy Johnson, 530-233-8888
The Barry Point Fire is now in patrol status as firefighters continue to search for smokes near the perimeter of the fire and work on repairing suppression damage to provide public safety and protect the land and resources affected by the fire. The fire management structure is now comprised of five divisions dedicated to patrolling the fire perimeter to ensure there is no remaining heat capable of compromising the containment lines, rehabilitating areas impacted by the fire suppression activities of the past three weeks, and ensuring the road system within the fire perimeter is safe for travel. Demobilization of excess resources continues as the firefighters continue to meet all fire suppression objectives.
The closures that are currently in place will be adjusted as it is safe for the public to re-enter the area. The public should be aware there will still be danger once access to the area becomes available. Fire weakened trees, burned out stumps, and falling limbs will all be present and any visitor to the area is encouraged to practice the firefighter's mantra; look up, look down, look around.
Currently area closures in California and Oregon are still in effect as follows:
Closures:
On the Fremont-Winema National Forest all the National Forest Lands, recreation sites, roads and trails in Yokum Valley, the Fitzwater/Point Ranch area, Dog Mountain, Long Valley, Drews Valley (south of Highway140), Dent Creek and Barry Point.
On the Modoc National Forest the entire area, including all roads, from the Oregon/California border south to the Big Sage Management Area then to the west to the 73 Road and east to Goose Lake.
Also, on the Modoc NF the Janes Camp Ground is closed.
Current closure maps are posted on Inciweb. Please watch www.facebook.com/SCOFMP for information on changes to the closure orders or call the numbers above.
