As of today, the Mustang Complex is being managed by a "short" team, made up of the Command and General Staff positions of the current Great Basin Team #3 Incident Management Team, with a few extra logistics people. All other members of the "long" team will be demobing throughout the day. This "short" team of fifteen people will work out of the North Fork Ranger District office finishing any loose ends from the fire while overseeing field operations.
The increase in fire acreage was mapped by an infrared flight Friday night. All the additional 1200+ acres are in the wilderness area in the Bitterroot NF. One of the hand crews will rehab excavator tracks on the north side of the fire, while the other will work on cleanup and low-stumping on the northeast corner. Engines will continue the task of finding spots to mop up, snagging roadways, clearing debris and working on rehab projects related to suppression of the fire. The Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) over the fire was lifted Friday night.
High temperatures for today will be in the upper 60s, however humidities will be extremely low. Once again, winds are terrain driven, meaning they are fairly light and not enough to move out the lingering smoke in the valleys which is occurring all over central Idaho.
Highway 93 is open, hunters and recreationists will continue to see fire traffic on roadways in the area. Closure areas still in effect on the Salmon-Challis National Forest are from Indian Creek on the Salmon River Road (030) to the Granite Mtn. Rd. on Hwy 93 (Closure #529); and from Granite Mtn. Rd. on Hwy 93 to Lost Trail Pass (Closure #532). The Salmon-Challis National Forest will assess closures on a daily basis and coordinate with the Bitterroot National Forest. For information on the Montana closures, contact the West Fork Ranger District at (406) 821-3269.
Several area closures have been lifted on the Salmon-Challis National Forest (#530 river trail west of Corn Creek, #528 wilderness/Gattin area, #522 Colson to Spring creeks, #523 Spring creek road, and #527 Spring to Indian creeks). These open up the area west of Indian Creek along the Salmon River Road (030). Signs will be posted warning of the hazards that could be encountered in a recently burned area. Forest users should use caution and stay alert for smoldering logs, falling trees (carry a chainsaw) and rolling debris.
