Mustang Complex News Release

Mustang Complex Fire Update 9/30/12

Incident: Mustang Complex Wildfire
Released: 9/30/2012

The most active part of the fire is on the northern perimeter. Crews continue to create fire line between forest road 185 to the Chrandal fire area. A few spots were detected yesterday on the northeastern side of the fire and firefighters were able to extinguish them. Firefighters will continue to monitor, patrol, and mop along the fire lines. Some smoke is being produced because the interior portion of the fire is burning. The Porcupine Complex and Mustang Complex have burned together near the Salmon Mountain Lookout.

Rehabilitation efforts are underway, which includes road grader work in the Hughes Creek area. A local Burned Area Emergency Rehabilitation (BAER) Team has begun to assess rehab needs along the Salmon River corridor. Within the next few days, a regional BAER Team will begin the larger task of assessing rehab needs over the entire fire area.

Additional resources are arriving to assist with the firefighting and rehabilitation efforts. Today's forecast includes higher temperatures, lower relative humidity and less cloud cover. A significant cold front is forecasted for next week, which will bring much cooler temperatures and some precipitation.
