Idaho: The fire was active yesterday in the wilderness putting up a smoke column on the northwest corner of the fire. Light fire activity was also observed on the northeast corner of the fire where helicopters were utilized for water drops. Indirect line construction will continue in this area of the fire.
A 26-person Helitack crew was inserted into the northeast area of the fire where they successfully completed direct fireline. Mop-up, patrolling, and rehab work continues on the southern and eastern perimeters of the fire.
Heat is still being detected in Indian Creek and Spring Creek. There are smoldering tree roots throughout the area, in addition to dry singed pine needles falling on hot ash that may cause visible flames inside the fire perimeter. Several patches of unburned vegetation also continue to burn slowly throughout the fire area.
Montana: Fireline was completed west of the 2012 Chrandal Fire. Smoldering and creeping fire was observed in areas along the northern edge of the fire where it crosses the Montana state line.
A weather disturbance will slide across the region today bringing increasing cloud cover with perhaps a brief afternoon or evening shower. Temperatures will start to get cooler. Winds will remain light.
