Mustang Complex Fire Update 9/24/12
Idaho: Smoke was observed west of Allan Mountain yesterday afternoon. The fire did move toward the Montana border, but stopped just short of it.
Activity today will be focused on continued mop-up, patrolling, and rehab work.
Firefighters will be looking for locations to take action on the northeast corner of the fire near Allan Mountain. Work continues with the Rifle Peak line construction and rehab along Granite Peak.
The approaching cold front has arrived with just light rain. We are expecting it to be cloudy along with wetting rain today. The rain, higher humidity, and cooler temperatures will decrease fire behavior.
The removal of hose, pumps, and other equipment from the fireline along the Salmon River Road and Highway 93 corridor is near completion. Rehab of fireline continues including repair of dozer lines and chipping of vegetation that was cut to create a fire break. In the last four days 7 miles "37,000 feet" of hose have been gathered, cleaned, and rewound.
Montana: Sunday there was a short run on the southeastern side of the 2012 Chrandal Fire, that did put up some smoke. This short run turned back into the fire scar and stopped. In Johnson Creek hotshot crews improved fireline along a ridge. They will continue to mop up that area today.
