Mustang Complex Wildfire Update 9/23/12

Incident: Mustang Complex Wildfire
Released: 9/23/2012

Idaho: Firefighters continue to scout the Rifle Peak area in the very northeast corner of the fire for potential fireline construction. In the Gattin Ranch area, crews extinguished two small (less than acre) spot fires. The area will be patrolled today.

An approaching cold front is expected to bring light winds, some measurable rain, cooler temperatures, higher humidity, and a possible chance of isolated lightning over a portion of the fire area Sunday and Monday. This change in weather is likely to decrease fire activity significantly and help to lessen the smoke.

The removal of hose, pumps, and other equipment from the fireline along the Salmon River Road and Highway 93 corridor is near completion. Rehab of fireline continues including repair of dozer lines and chipping of vegetation that was cut to create a fire break.

Montana: Yesterday's fire activity was minimal on the Montana portion of the fire. A hotshot crew and a bulldozer improved firelines in the Johnson Creek area. Crews there also mopped up a 1-2 acre spot fire and worked to place water pumps and hoses on a ridgetop fire line. In Mine Creek, firefighters chipped woody debris to rehabilitate roads. That work will continue today.
