Area Update:
Snow is covering some sections of Forest Service roads above 8,000 feet. Drivers should use caution when approaching heavy equipment working on the roads.
Closures:
The Browns Creek Trail (#48) remains closed starting at the Middle Fork Boise River going north. The Hot Creek Trail (#47) is open to foot traffic only. The Mountain Home District Ranger will continue with a 25,000 acre area closure due to hazard tree concerns and public safety in the southern portion of the fire (Trinity Lakes Recreation Area).
Burned Area Emergency Response:
Forest crews and contractors are making good progress with emergency rehabilitation for watershed protection and road and trail repairs adjusted for the snow accumulations at higher elevations. Crews are working on road blading through the Lost Man area.
Crews are constructing water bars and cutting downed trees on approximately 57 miles of trails to stabilize erosion. Idaho City Ranger District workers are focusing their efforts on the Browns Creek and Hot Creek trails.
Road work completed and/or in progress includes the following:
Forest Road 129
- Road bladed and culvert inlet basins cleaned out to Trinity Lakes.
Forest Road 157
- Road bladed, culvert inlet basins cleaned out and stump holes in roadbed repaired.
Forest Road 158
- Road bladed, culvert inlet basins cleaned out and stump holes in roadbed repaired.
Forest Road 172
- Road bladed and debris in culvert inlet basins cleaned out.
- Culvert installations in progress along with installation of some corrugated inlet guards.
- Contract awarded to replace culverts.
Forest Road 183
- Road gates installed.
Forest Road 255
- Crews are blading, cleaning out culvert inlet basins and constructing rolling dips in Lost Man area.
- Contract awarded to complete culvert replacement.
- Road gates installed.
Forest Road 290
- Contract awarded to complete culvert replacement.
Centennial Job Corps Center crews constructed around 50 trash (wood debris) racks that will be shipped to Featherville.
Aerial straw mulching planned for nearly 2,000 acres this fall is delayed due to issues that developed during the contracting process. Work will likely finish next spring.
