Released: 9/14/2012
Transfer of command of the Trinity Ridge Fire from the Alaska Type 1 Incident Management Team to a Type 3 organization managed by the Boise National Forest has been completed.
The revised area closure (order no. 0402-00-0025, Revision #7) took effect this morning, September 14, 2012 at 0700. Details and a map of the current closure are available at http://inciweb.org/incident/closures/3088/
Some roads in the fire area have been opened; these limited access roads are for through traffic only. Please be aware that firefighters and related equipment may still be working in the area. Drive with headlights on at all times. The public is asked not to leave their vehicles while driving on roads through the closed area due to fire related hazards. Idaho National Guard continues to man control points within the closed area.
Recreation facilities that remain closed include: all facilities in the Trinity Lakes Recreation area, Troutdale Campground, Ninemeyer Campground, and Hot Creek Trailhead near FR 156. All trails within the fire closure area remain closed to public use. The area near the north/south ridgeline between Rabbit Creek and Thorn Butte lookout will have heavy equipment and a fire crew continuing work on the contingency line until early next week. For the safety of the public and the firefighters, please avoid the area.
Although the fire has not grown, interior pockets of unburned fuel continue to burn. The forecasted weather for today may result in increased fire activity. Fire officials continue to monitor the fire from the air and ground. Helicopters will be utilized to cool hot spots when needed. Smoke may be visible today in the area of the fire where transit roads are open and near the communities of Pine and Featherville.
