8-30 Trinity Ridge Fire Update
Incident: Trinity Ridge Fire Wildfire
Released: 8/30/2012
Firefighters will work today to complete the burnout operation between Wagontown and Green Creeks. A spot fire occurred last night to the east of the South Fork Boise River and the Pine-Featherville Road. The spot fire happened about 2 am and is currently 3 acres. Two crews are being aided by helicopters to control the spot fire.
Fire managers will use Type 1 helicopters again today to slow progression toward the Middle Fork Boise River on the fire's western flank. Crews are preparing the road from an old fire scar southwest to Sheep Rock drainage. Firefighters are beginning line construction from Forest Road 357 to Rabbit Creek Summit and south to Thorn Creek Butte.
The new Zumwalt fire reported Tuesday evening between Grandjean and Highway 21 remains at 15 acres. Crews are cold-trailing the line, which involves carefully inspecting and feeling with the hand for any heat and digging out any hot spots. Full containment is expected today.
The Elmore County Sheriff's office has asked that evacuees with a critical need to access their properties contact their Incident Command Post. The decision to allow access will be made on a case-by-case basis. Residents should call 208-590-3845.
The Elmore County Sheriff evacuation order continues for the area from Featherville to Paradise due to thick smoke, reduced visibility and fire activity. An Evacuation Center is being operated at the Pine Senior Center by the Salvation Army with support from the Red Cross.
There is a new closure area around the fire. Details are outlined in the Boise National Forest Trinity Ridge Fire Area Closure Order Number 0402-00-23 signed by Boise and Sawtooth Forest Supervisors on August 29th, 2012. Details found under Closures.
