Cause: Lightning

Detected: July 28, 2012

Location: Approximately 4 miles northeast of Condon, MT.

Legal Description: Lat. 47� 36.0, Long. 113�40.5; SE/SE S5, T21N, R16W

Current size: 2029 acres

Jurisdiction: USDA-FS, Northern Region, Flathead National Forest, Swan Lake Ranger District; Montana DNRC, Swan River State Forest

Current Status: Today, Sunday, September 16th, the fire is active in the south eastern portion of the fire, in the vicinity of the upper elevation areas of Condon Creek and Smith Creek. Fire managers will use two Super Scooper airplanes and three helicopters to put water on the fire in order to cool hotspots and check growth in that area. Heavy equipment, including an excavator, harvester, and a feller-buncher, and three engine crews are working to build a fuel break on the road system below the fire area to the end of Forest Road 9762, and then eastward, up Mckay Creek.

A community meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 17, 6:00 pm, at the Condon Community Hall. Fire managers will provide an update on the fire.

Resources: Today, two Super Scooper airplanes, three helicopters, three engines, and heavy equipment, including an excavator, harvester, and a feller-buncher, are working on the fire. A 20-person hand crew has been ordered. A type three incident management team is organized to manage the fire.

Closures: Trail #29, the Smith-Little Salmon Trail remains closed.
