Location: Approx. 18 miles northwest of Stanley, Idaho
Legal Description: T13N R11E Sec. 34 (Lat: 44º 26' 45" N Long: 115º 9' 59" W)
Jurisdiction: USDA Forest Service, Intermountain Region, Salmon-Challis National Forest
Resources on the fire: 332 personnel, including 10 hand crews, 8 engines, 3 helicopters
Forecast: Winds will decrease (10 mph) and shift to a southerly direction; first from the southeast, shifting to the southwest. Temperatures will be in the upper 70s. Humidity will range from 10-20 percent. Sunday is expected to be warmer and drier.
Remarks:
On Friday afternoon, northerly winds pushed the fire slightly to the south. Firefighters will continue to construct indirect firelines from the Beaver/Marsh Creek area southeast to protect the Boy Scout Camp, private property and Cape Horn Guard Station along the Hwy 21 corridor. Additional crews will be working on structure protection around Loon Creek Guard Station and Diamond D Ranch.
Closures:
The Halstead Fire Emergency Area Closure (Order Number: 04-13-12-521) went into effect August 3, 2012 for all access points to the Cape Horn Area, all access to the Seafoam Bubble, all access to the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness (FCRONRW) that is east of the Middle Fork Wild and Scenic River Corridor, east of Bluebunch Ridge, and north of Lola Creek, National Forest lands north of Hwy 21 & 75 to Sunbeam and west of Yankee Fork Road to Loon Creek Guard Station. The Pinyon Peak Road in its entirety is closed.
The following CAMPGROUNDS are closed due to the fire closure: Beaver Creek Campground, Lola Creek Campground, Marsh Creek Transfer, Josephus Lake.
ALL ROADS and TRAILS within the closure and forming boundaries of the closure area are CLOSED.
The above described area is within the proclaimed and administrative boundaries of the Middle Fork and Challis-Yankee Fork Ranger Districts, Salmon-Challis National Forest and the Sawtooth National Recreation Area.
The Boundary Creek Launch Site and the entire Middle Fork River Corridor are OPEN.
In addition, Highway 21 from Stanley to Boise is NOT affected by the fire.
Prevention Message: Fire danger on the Salmon-Challis National Forest is HIGH. Although the Forest currently does not have any fire restrictions in affect, we are asking visitors to use precaution at all times. Please make sure your campfires are completely dead out prior to leaving your campsite at any time.
