Chips Fire Emergency Area Closure
Pursuant to 16 USC 551 and 36 CFR 261.50(a) and (b), and to provide for public safety, the following acts are prohibited within the Almanor Ranger District of the Lassen National Forest. This Order is effective from 9:00 p.m. on August 6,2012, until the Chips Fire has been fully suppressed.
I. Going into or being upon National Forest System lands within the Chips Fire Closure Area. The Chips Fire Closure Area begins at the intersection of the Plumas National Forest boundary and the southwest corner of section 17 (Township 24 North, Range 6 East, Mount Diablo Base and Meridian), then continues north along the section line to its intersection with Forest Road No. 24N04, then continues northwest along Forest Road No. 24N04 to its intersection with Forest Trail No. 6E14, then continues northwest along Forest Trail No. 6E 14, to its intersection with Forest Trail No. 6E 11, then continues north along Forest Trail No. 6E 11 to its intersection with Forest Road No. 25N04, then continues north along Forest Road No. 25N04 to its intersection with Forest Road No. 25N05, then continues west along Forest Road No. 25N05 to its intersection with Butte County Road No. 92523, then continues west along Butte County Road No. 92523 to its intersection with Butte County Road No. 91513, then continues northeast along Butte County Road No. 91513 to its intersection with Plumas County Road No. 307 (Plumas County Line), then continues northeast along Plumas County Road No. 307 to its intersection with Forest Road No. 27N65, then continues northeast along Forest Road No. 27N65 to its intersection with Forest Road No. 27N04, then continues east along Forest Road No. 27N04 to its intersection with Plumas County Road No. 308, then continues northeast along Plumas County Road No. 308 to its intersection with Hwy. 89, then continues southeast along Hwy. 89 to its intersection with the Plumas National Forest boundary, then continues southwest along the Plumas National Forest boundary back to the starting point, as shown on Exhibit A. 36 CFR 261.53(e).
2. Being on any National Forest System trail within the Chips Fire Closure Area. 36 CFR 261.55(a).
3. Being on any National Forest System road within the Chips Fire Closure Area. 36 CFR 261.54(e). Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this
Order:
1. Persons with a permit from the Forest Service specifically authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission.
2. Any Federal, State, or local officer or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of an official duty.
3. Owners or lessees of private land in the Chips Fire Closure Area to the extent necessary to gain access to their land.
4. Persons who reside on private land in the Chips Fire Closure Area to the extent necessary to gain access to their residences.
5. Persons engaged in a business, trade, or occupation in the area.
These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions found in 36 CFR Part 261, Subpart A. A violation of these prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both. 16 USC 551 and 18 USC 3559, 3571, and 3581.
