Current Situation: Firefighters are working to contain and suppress the 250-acre Falls Fire while protecting life, property and natural resources. The fire was reported on July 24 and is located approximately 6 miles southwest of Hot Springs, SD. Currently containment remains at 0%. The fire is burning in timber and grass.

The Falls Fire is currently being managed by the Hell Canyon Type 3 Incident Management Team. The Type 3 Team is actively working to suppress the fire while monitoring fire behavior, the terrain, and weather forecasts. One of the management objectives is to keep the fire from entering the area of the Alabaugh Fire, which burned in 2007.

The Rocky Mountain Incident Management Team, led by Incident Commander Bill Hahnenberg, will assume command of the Falls Fire at 6:00 a.m. Thursday, July 26.

Local, state, and federal firefighting resources are responding. Approximately 150 fire personnel are on-scene, including 1 Hotshot crew, 4 Type 2 IA crews, 7 engines, 2 dozers, 1 water tender, and 2 Type 1 helicopters with air attack.
