Horse Canyon News Release

Fire Crews Make Tremendous Progress

Incident: Horse Canyon Wildfire
Released: 7/4/2012

Happy 4th of July!

Summary: With cooler temperatures and higher humidity's fire resources were able to make tremendous progress on the fire yesterday. Rain showers were observed on some areas of the fire which helped with containment efforts. The crews worked hard during the day to establish a containment line around the entire fire perimeter, and today they will monitor, patrol and continue to secure the lines. A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) continues to be in place over the fire with a 7 mile radius and a 10,500 foot ceiling.

This fire is not impacting the public visiting Carlsbad Caverns National Park and we encourage the public to come enjoy the Cave tours and park ranger programs, such as the bat flight program. The tours are on their normal schedule and a list is available at; www.nps.gov/cave.
