Incident: Crow Peak Fire Wildfire

NOTE: This is the last update on the Crow Peak Fire.
Spearfish, SD- Crews are continuing to mop up on the 135 acre Crow Peak fire. Incident Commander Brian Daunt anticipates that the fire will achieve 100% containment by 6:00 PM on June 29, 2012. Occasional smoke may still be visible for the next several weeks while crews continue to extinguish burning stumps and ground litter on the interior of the fire.
There are approximately 88 fire fighters still working on the line this morning. The Type 3 team will return control of the fire back to the Northern Hills Ranger District tonight. Two hand crews will remain camped in Spearfish to assist with mop up.
Total cost of the fire through June 29, 2012 is estimated at $950,000.
District Ranger Rhonda O'Byrne would like to thank all the agencies who assisted including; the FS, BLM, BIA, NPS, State of SD; volunteer fire departments including Black Hawk 8, Wall Brush 2, Brookings, Colman, Trent, Parker, Lemmon, Spearfish; the Linde and Anderson dozers; Lyons engine; the National Guard Helicopters; hand crews, Bear Mountain, ShoRap, ASP, Northern Cheyenne, Northwest Regulars, and the Black Hats, and ambulance services from Whitewood, Spearfish and Sturgis.
O'Byrne would also like to thank the anonymous donators of popsicles, and fruit to the fire camp personnel and a especially big thanks to the Spearfish Middle School, Lawrence County Emergency Management and the Spearfish KOA.
