Due to favorable weather conditions of lower temperatures, higher humidity and reduced wind speeds, fire fighters were able make great progress today. Crews performed direct line construction on most flanks. The fire was relatively quiet all day along the Hwy 24 corridor where firefighters were able to improve lines and perform some mop-up operations. Firefighters also began mopping up along Rampart Range Road in the north flank. Air support, including MAFFS, was used extensively on the large spot fire north of Rampart Reservoir. The MAFFS were heavily utilized in the problematic Monument Creek area all day to improve firefighter's ability to construct line.
Tomorrow firefighters will continue to construct direct line while conditions permit, utilizing air support to aid in their efforts. By evening, approximately 150 firefighters will be spiked out in Springdale Camp northeast of the fire. Dozers will be used to construct contingency lines along Mount Herman Road.
