Dry Meadow Prescribed Fire Ignition

Incident: Dry Meadow -Summit Ranger District Prescribed Fire

General and Specific Location: The prescribed fire is located northwest of Beardsley Lake and adjacent to Forest Service Roads 5N02 (Beardsley Road), 5N22, and 4N66. Locations are Township 4N, Range 17E, Sections 2-5, 8-10 and Township 5N, Range 17E, Sections 23, 26, 32-35.

Projected Duration:Ignition of the Dry Meadow Underburn will commence at the end of May or early June. The burn days will vary slightly, contingent on weather, burn day status, and available fire suppression resources. All burning is monitored and conducted in accordance with state and county air quality guidelines and closely coordinated with local county air quality control districts.

Planned Size of Prescribed Burn: A total of 1529 acres are to be treated with low-intensity fire, with planned ignition on approximately 150 acres daily. The underburn is divided into 15 units, ranging in size from 27 to 171 acres. Number of acres completed may vary with weather and fuel moisture conditions, as well as permissible air quality burn days.

Type of Prescribed Burn: Underburn of low intensity.

Burn Project Objectives: Reduce the buildup of flammable forest fuels, both ground fuels and ladder fuels; reduce the threat of uncontrolled, large and damaging fires;

Public Benefits: Prescribed burning is an effective cost efficient method of reducing the surface fuel (vegetation) loading.

Public Advisory:Smoke might be visible along the Highway 108 corridor, FS Roads 5N02, 5N22, and 4N66. There will be smoke in the canyons during the night and early morning. This project is a planned prescribed fire. Please do not report as a wildland fire. Thank you for your cooperation!
