Mike Johnston's Type 3 Incident Management Team Thursday declared the 12,047-acre North Schell Fire, located in the Schell Mountain Range about 20 miles northeast of Ely, Nev., 90-percent contained. Firefighting resources began demobilizing yesterday afternoon.
The fire will be monitored for activity. Isolated areas of smoke are expected throughout the interior of the burn area for up to a month and may be visible to Ely and McGill residents.
The Kalamazoo Road and Recreation Site, and Indian Creek Road are open to the public.
The North Schell Fire began on June 9th as a U.S. Forest Service prescribed fire. Since it was declared a wildfire on Sunday, June 17th, the fire has been managed jointly by the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Ely District, Schell Field Office.
