Patrols Continue on Poco Fire

Incident: Poco Fire Wildfire
Released: 6/25/2012

YOUNG, Az. - With scattered thunderstorms forecast through Tuesday, 110 fire personnel remain stationed around the perimeter of the Poco Fire, northeast of Young, Arizona, checking for hot spots and prepositioned for potential lightning strikes.

The Central West Zone Interagency Type 3 Team assumed command today of the Poco Fire. "Our crews are extending mop up operations from the fire's edge inward 300 feet. Trees are smoldering and there are hot spots; safety remains a priority," said Andy Mandell, the incident commander trainee. Residents who live around or visit the Tonto National Forest are advised to stay out of the fire zone due to safety hazards. Forest Road 512 to Young remains closed.

Firefighters are also staged to handle new fire starts. They will be supported by air attack on all new fires. The Central West Zone Interagency Type 3 Team consists of four engines, two hot shot crews, air support, water tenders, and a dozer.

The Poco Fire has not exceeded 11,950 acres and remains 65 percent contained. The human caused fire started on June 14. Five firefighters have been injured; no structures were burned.
