Cause: Under Investigation Location: 3 miles south of Superior

Containment: 50 percent Fuels: Brush, Manzanita, Oak

Terrain: Steep, rugged Resources: 9 crews, 14 engines, 2 dozers, 5 water tenders

Total personnel: 465 Available air support: 7 helicopters, 3 air tankers

Summary: Firefighters continued to make progress on the 257 Fire today. Crews were flown in by helicopter to remote locations on the fire due to the steep rugged terrain that was otherwise inaccessible. These crews were utilized to perform a direct attack, building and improving fire line at the active part of the fire. Additional aircraft, including the DC-10 Very Large Air Tanker, provided support to efforts on the ground. As a result of progress made today demobilization of a number of resources will begin tomorrow, returning crews and engines to their home units or to assignments at other fires in the region.

Threats: High daytime temperatures and low humidity remain a concern for firefighter safety and potential for heat related illnesses exists.

Traffic: Emergency vehicles and others associated with fire suppression efforts are moving along U.S. Highway 60 between Superior and Top of the World and on State Route 177 between Superior and Forest Road 315. For the safety of all involved, the public is asked to be alert to this added traffic and use extra caution when driving through these areas.
