Bear Mountain Understory Burn Announcement

Incident: Bear Mountain Understory Burn Prescribed Fire
Released: 5/16/2012

The Forest Service met with California Air Resource Board, National Weather Service, and Mariposa and Tuolumne County Air Quality Boards today and received approval to go ahead with prescribed burn. Scheduled for tomorrow May 16.

USFS with have a crew in place by noon tomorrow and will likely light off a small 17 acre unit of lite fuels by 2:00 pm. The forecast for dispersion indicates smoke will travel North East away from Highway 49 during the day and possibly settle down in the Tuolumne River Canyon at night. The entire Bear Mountain prescribed burn should be completed by Friday.
