Hewlett Fire News Release

Hewlett Gulch & Greyrock Trails Both Closed

Incident: Hewlett Fire Wildfire
Released: 6/6/2012

Fort Collins, Colo. (June 6, 2012) - Due to increased fire activity, but not growth outside the contained perimeter, the Greyrock Trail has reclosed. The Hewlett Gulch Trail remains closed as well.

There is some increased fire activity relatively close to the Greyrock Trail. The trail will reopen when it is considered safe for the public. The trail was previously reopened to the public on June 1st, when the Hewlett Gulch Trail also reclosed.

It is also important for visitors to know that there is still smoke in the area of the Hewlett Fire. Smoke could be visible from within the interior of the fire for weeks to come as unburned pockets of fuel continue to ignite and smolder.

For additional recreation information on the Canyon Lakes Ranger District, please contact visitor information services at 970-295-6700. The office is staffed Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the summer.
