Silo Wildfire Efforts Proving Successful
Middle River, MN - Firefighters working on Agassiz National Wildlife Refuge's Silo Wildfire continue making steady progress. Their hard work is reflected in the fire being considered to be 55% contained as of last night.
The number of special tracked vehicles currently being used will be cut almost in half at the end of today's shift.
The progress is also shown in the transition from a Type 3 Incident to a Type 4 Incident. The activity of the fire combined with numbers of firefighters and equipment being downsized results in a lower complexity rating
Troy Boschee, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Type 4 Incident Commander from Fergus Falls, MN is taking over management from Lee Nelson's Type 3 Incident Command Organization.
As progress continues and complexity lessens, the fire will be returned to the Agassiz Refuge Fire Staff to monitor and patrol. Timing of this will be weather dependent, in the event of significant precipitation or when daily temps stay below freezing and firefighters won't be able to move water onto the fire scene.
