DONALDSON FIRE UPDATE
Monday, July 4, 2011, 10:00 P.M. Fire Information: (575) 653-4116
Firefighters made exceptional progress on containing and securing the perimeter of the Donaldson Fire today. Burnout operations continued south of US Hwy 70 and east of Forest Road 443 (Hale Lake), significantly improving ½ mile wide containment lines .
Most of the smoke visible was coming from pockets of islands of vegetation burning within the interior of the perimeter and from burn out operations conducted today.
Burnout operations were completed today. No other plans for burnout operations are expected. Crews will also monitor and mop-up hot spots within the interior of the fire area.
Tomorrow rehab will begin on dozer lines and other disturbances due to suppression activities throughout the perimeter.
Plans to transition from the New Mexico Type II team to a smaller Type III organization are beginning.
16 people attended today's public meeting on the Donaldson Fire.
NOTE: Public Meetings for the Donaldson Fire will no longer be held unless a significant need arises.
