Wednesday, August 3, 2011

The Las Conchas fire is 100% contained as of the evening of August 1. Management of resources and fire rehabilitation efforts has been transferred from NIMO to local resources effective 6 am August 3.

Minimal patrol and mop up may continue until significant rainfall occurs. Occasional smoke may be visible in the interior of the burned area until then. A partial lifting of fire restrictions went into effect July 30 for the Santa Fe National Forest and the Valles Caldera National Preserve. However, the Las Conchas Fire burned area is closed to public access. Santa Fe National Forest officials are evaluating forest roads within the burned area to determine which roads may be reopened and when. For additional information about closures, visit the Santa Fe National Forest website at: http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/sfe/; or contact the Valles Caldera National Preserve at (866) 382-5537.

This is the final update for suppression of the Las Conchas Fire. Additional BAER implementation treatment information is available on Inciweb at http://www.inciweb.org/incident/2406/.
