Wallow Fire Base Camp Hosts Show Low Young Marines
The Monday morning briefing at the Luna Lake Base Camp began with the posting of the colors and Pledge of Allegiance led by an honor guard from the Eastern Mountains chapter of the Young Marines out of Show Low. The ceremony, in recognition of Independence Day was arranged after honor guard members were recruited during Saturday's parade in Alpine. Though they had previously planned to march in Monday's parade in Show Low they elected to take the assignment at fire camp. Following the briefing Young Marines Cory Kimmel (carrying flag) and Jeremy Hensky along with their Unit CO, Marty Jarvey, enjoyed breakfast with the firefighters and a tour of fire camp. They met with California Incident Management Team Commander Jeanne Pincha-Tulley who showed the team's gratitude by presented them with a team pin. Their chapter of the Young Marines has been chosen to attend the 70th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii in December. Firefighters contributed nearly $300 to the group to help with travel expenses.
