Prescribed Burn Planned in The Point Area Saturday, March 5

Weather permitting, fire managers plan to burn the P11 unit (164 acres) in the Point area of the park on Saturday, March 5. Ignitions are expected to begin around 9am and last until approximately 6pm. Predicted winds from the north should move smoke to the south, towards the lake.

The road to the Nature Center, the Nature Center Trails and the Rock Creek Multi-Use Trails are now open.

To date, fire managers have treated approximately 1,742 acres (out of approximately 3,000 total acres that are part of this project). Hot spots within the interior of completed burn units may continue to burn until they receive significant precipitation. Firefighters continue to patrol these areas and take action as needed. Fire managers still plan to burn the following units when conditions are favorable: Hunting, P14, P15, ESA, and F3.
