Gird End Fire

The Gird End Fire was active throughout Monday and Monday night, growing from 455 acres on early Monday morning, to 1200 acres by evening with an additional 800 acres added during the night on Monday. The incoming cloud cover slowed the rate of fire spread on Tuesday. The fire grew to within 250 yards of Skalkaho Highway near Skalkaho Falls. The road remains open; road patrols will continue throughout the afternoon and night, and the road will be closed temporarily if conditions warrant. This fire covers terrain that is 7000-8000 ft in elevation. Additional information about this fire can be obtained by calling the Darby Ranger District at 406-821-3913.
