Incident: San Isabel Complex Wildfire
Released: 9/10/2009

CANON CITY, CO Sept. 10, 2009: Two lightning caused fires continue to burn in remote areas of Custer County on the San Carlos Ranger District in the San Isabel National Forest.

Johnson Gulch Fire is located 9 miles southwest of Wetmore, Colorado, in Custer County. Contingency lines were completed Wednesday by the Pike Hotshots, on the north and east side, along Rudolph Mountain trail in Johnson Gulch. Water-bars, which will minimize erosion caused by rain, were also installed along the same line.

Fire behavior on this fire is described as minimal. At this time minimal smoke has been visible in the area. The burn area is estimated at 33 acres.

Holt Fire is located 4 miles southwest of Wetmore, Colo., in Custer County. Smoke diminished considerably on Wednesday, but will continue to be visible periodically, during the warmer portions of the day. The Holt fire is estimated to be two acres in size and will continue to be monitored daily.

These fires will continue to be managed, monitored and patrolled by fire managers on the district. The electronic signs positioned on Highways 67 and 165 will be removed by Friday, September 11, 2009.
