Pile Burning Planned Monday

WILLIAMS, Ariz. - Pile burning is planned for the Williams Ranger District Monday, December 12, pending favorable conditions and Arizona Department of Environmental Quality approval. Managers have requested approval to burn approximately 300 acres of piles southeast of Williams near Dogtown Lake and Woods Subdivision.

An approaching storm and improving ventilation is predicted for Monday. Smoke is expected to travel northeast of the project areas. Williams, Woods Subdivision, Sherwood Forest Estates, County Road 73 and I-40 may be impacted by smoke.

The goals of thinning and pile burning are to reduce fire hazard and return important nutrients to the soil. For more information about prescribed fires, please call Punky Moore, Fire Information Officer, 928-635-5653 or call the recorded information line at 928-635-8311.
