Tusayan Ranger Dist Projects News Release

Managers Cancel 90-Acre Rx Fire Planned for Monday

Incident: Tusayan Ranger Dist Projects Prescribed Fire
Released: 5/6/2012

TUSAYAN, Ariz. - Fire managers have canceled the 90-acre Flying J prescribed fire planned for Monday after further evaluation of the fuels conditions in the project unit and discussions about weather trends with the National Weather Service. The unit is located two miles southwest of Tusayan, just west of the Grand Canyon Airport on the Kaibab National Forest.

There is a slight chance of precipitation early in the week according to the National Weather Service. Favorable conditions may return to the area by mid-week which may provide an opportunity for fire crews to conduct the burn. The objectives of the prescribed fire include returning fire to the ecosystem, reducing hazardous fuels and improving wildlife habitat.
